New Term, New Learners

03/09/2019 by Adam Shore Leave a Comment

It’s September already, which means all of us at Kehelland College are ready to welcome back our returning learners after a summer break, but also to welcome our brand new learners who are starting their Kehelland journey with us this year! We’re very proud to be expanding from one program of study group last year to two for this year. The new learner group will be called ‘Flourish’ and our returning learners are progressing onto the ‘Bloom’ course.

We’ve listened to our learners’ feedback about last year’s programme and we’ve made some changes, tweaking our subjects and activities to ensure we’re delivering the best possible experience for all our learners. We thought we’d give a brief overview of the skills and subjects each group will be covering this year at Kehelland College.

Flourish

Our new learners will be undertaking our improved Flourish program, which covers subjects such as:

Accessing Public Transport

Basic Food Preparation

Taking Part in Activities

Discovering Local History

Garden Horticulture

Skills for Hygiene in the Home and Everyday Life

Bloom

Our returning learners will be trying out our brand new program, which includes:

Teamwork Skills

Independent Living Skills

Developing Skills for Employment

Introduction to Employability Skills

Time Management

Looking after Customers

Our Bloom course builds on the learning in the Flourish program and introduces some more advanced skills, geared towards independent living, employment and active participation in the community.

In addition, both groups will have one day per week on a course focussing on ‘soft skills’, including mental health and wellbeing, keeping yourself safe and understanding others.

Of course, both groups will also have some time dedicated to English and Maths, building confidence by teaching practical skills that we can all use in everyday life.

The entire team is really excited for the new term to begin, to welcome students new and old, and to see what this year brings for us!
