OUR YEAR GROUPS

ACHIEVE
The first-year group helps learners settle into Kehelland College. They look into a wide variety of topics such as cooking different meals, developing cooking skills and safety. Accessing public transport, and other units designed to build independence.

ADVANCE
Our second-year group builds on the first, and covers modules on looking after yourself and your home, an independent enterprise project that learners will choose, develop and then sell, and various other team-based units. The learners will have the opportunity to learn different skills and qualities related to the workplace such as teamwork and dressing appropriately for different jobs - this build up strategically to the third year.

SUCCEED
In our third and final year group, this group will be able to visit and take part in external work experience, and will complete classroom work around building their confidence and self-awareness. The learner will learn how to be job-ready by exploring interview skills and other requirements needed for employability or volunteering.
BESPOKE
Some learners aren't quite ready to continue their educational journey. The prospect of a new setting can be daunting for some, and the idea of meeting a whole new group of people can be an emotionally difficult prospect for some learners.
That's where our Bespoke program comes in! Like it says on the tin, we can spend an academic year with an entirely bespoke provision, with the aim being to integrate the learner into Kehelland Trust by showing them who we are and what we do.
The outcomes can be set to whats important for the learner, and so far we've found that everyone who is having social or emotional difficulties will be able to overcome these and move forward with the educational journey once we've shown them that we are worthy of their trust.
MEET THE TEAM
Our education team is made up of dedicated, passionate individuals who are all committed to providing the highest level of teaching and learning. We meet regularly as a team to discuss the best ways to reach our learners, and strive for continuous development and training ensuring we are consistently following good practice guidelines and maximising our effectiveness for our learners. Each learning group is made up of a tutor, a Senior ALS and multiple ALS (Additional learning support).
Our staff members all provide classroom, on-site and off-site support for our learners, with a focus on encouraging the learners' independent thought and confidence in their own actions. We're dedicated to not 'spoon-feeding' our learners with answers; instead, we use open questions and phrases to guide the learner to finding the answers on their own.
The Tutors are fabulous people that lead and teach every group and are in charge of coming up with practical activities and lessons for the class to engage and learn about. These guys hold a wealth of experience, each in different backgrounds and bring different styles and methods to our education programs.

Hi, I'm Jon and I'm the Senior Tutor. I teach the first year learners at Kehelland and am responsible for Internal Quality Assurance and helping to manage the delivery of our education programmes. I teach a range of both accredited and non-accredited units, ranging from independent living and team work skills to positive mental and physical health. I've been working at Kehelland since 2015 and love the sense of community and values that the trust embodies.
Previously, I spent many years as a Residential Manager, managing care homes for young people with ASD and training direct care staff in Positive Behavioural Support approaches. I have been able to use many transferrable skills from this time to ensure that our learners receive the best provision that we are able to offer.
I enjoy exploring and getting outdoors, music and adventures away in my van.

I am the tutor for the second-year Advance group, Luci with an 'i' (not to be confused with Lucy with a 'y')! I have been working at Kehelland for 4 years now and started as a 1:1 support, I then took on the role of senior support and now I'm a tutor.
Before this I studied to be a primary school teacher, but then decided I'd love to work with people with special educational needs. I love being a tutor, making my lessons as fun and engaging as I can, and finding any excuse to mention or use a photo of my dog Bruno in my lessons!
In Advance we continue to build on the skills and experiences learnt in year one, developing them further, and taking things to the next logical step - Advancing our skills!

Lucy (with a 'Y') came to us in September 2024 but has worked in education for over 25 years. She loves History and takes any opportunity to weave it into her lessons! She is also known as the recycling monitor due to her commitment to the environment and you might also see her cycling to and from work each day.
Lucy loves working at Kehelland and comes up with loads of innovative ways to enthuse and engage our learners. Lucy makes sure the learner's full final year is challenging and rewarding.
The third-year group is called 'Succeed', and Lucy helps our learners do exactly that!
