COMMUNITY: Orchard Pruning & Maintenance Workshop

25/01/2022 by Sally Pyner 2 Comments

One space available due to the reschedule!!

We are excited to announce our first on-site event of the year!

Spend a full day with us here at Kehelland Trust under the guiding hands of Orcharding Tutor Michelle.

.

She will be helping you gain the skills you need to properly care & maintain your own apple trees, whether just one or an orchard full.

Michelle has been a professional gardener for over 14 years but began to focus on Orcharding and Community food growing which led to a Level 3 Certificate in Community Orchard Management.

Michelle learnt from experts in the field including subjects such as soil biology and health, biodiversity and the use of permaculture methods. She has gone on to mentor volunteers at community orchards with pruning and orchard management tasks; setting up a Cornwall Orchard Network and, more recently, Resilient Orchards Cornwall CIC. Orchards are fascinating, often historic places; for skill-sharing and appreciating local apple varieties. Michelle’s aim is to promote more orchards in our communities, spreading skills, and creating social spaces for all.

Horticultural Coordinator, Sally will also be on site to share her knowledge of the horticultral programmes on site (including the orchards).

Sally will also introduce participants to a good variety of Maiden Cornish Heritage Apple trees grafted on site. These will be available at a 10% discount to all workshop participants.

Guidance, tools & equipment will be provided. However if you have your own tools, please bring them as it will be easier to maintain that muscle memory afterwards!!

A vegan lunch will be provided along with tea & biscuit breaks.

The cost for the day is £40 per person and places can be reserved using our online shop and selecting the ‘WORKSHOPS’ order cycle. You can access this from our website, or by going direct to

http://www.openfoodnetwork.org.uk/kehelland-trust-food-hub/shop

Spaces are limited so please book as soon as you know you’d like to attend 🙂

If you have any questions, please feel free to email: hort@kehellandtrust.org.uk or call (01209) 613153
